Day Three: An Englishman in Hays

Being a complete newcomer to the team and acquaintances of 5205 Studios, you would expect some nerves and trepidations on being stuck on a remote farm with a group of people looking to be reveling in the chance to smell like "dirty stinking hippies" after a week of intense horror-ific, blood spattered film-making. Similarly, the introduction of a well-spoken Englishman with a history of taught school lessons in table etiquette (let alone outhouse!) into a creative team unlimited by foibles or squeamishness might not seem the best casting decision. However, given these people now trust me to such a degree that they know a slap on the face or ass has the sole intention of killing a mosquito about to chow down, I think we've all settled in fine together.

Getting the first scenes of this movie "in the can," after the intended first scenes were mosquitoed back to the Green Room, was a huge relief for all involved in this project. From us actors' perspective, once the tense negotiations over whether Curtis and I could handle finishing shooting at 4:30am to begin again 4 hours later were concluded in our favour (sorry you ended up doing that Charlie and Marion), we threw all our energies into it to ensure you the viewing public can all grasp how much Isaac and Willis get on each others' nerves. Potential continuity errors were spotted quickly, and overcome. Two takes was the maximum we needed to get the shot. Powering through the onsetting tiredness, getting used to the equipment, after such a productive session we thought the next day would be a breeze, especially after we shortened it significantly to give everyone a bit of a break.

So now here we are, 4 to 5 hours late! Oh, the best laid plans of mosquitoes and men....
